Wow! What a beautiful few weeks it has been, the blossoms are in full bloom! Yesterday was a gorgeous day of food forest maintenance for us. One of the reasons we love planting perennial food forests is that if it’s done right, every year the plants and soil get stronger and healthier! I love eating annual vegetables, but there is something so extraordinarily rewarding about planting fruit and nut trees, and every year they produce more and more fruit. The growth potential is exponential, and no re-planting is necessary each season.
Fortunately there are lots of great farmers who love to grow annual vegetables, including one of our clients, Heather Parker of City Harvest Cooperative. We installed a food forest for her, and in exchange for regular weekly maintenance, she supplies us with delicious fresh produce – the last few weeks have been full of spring salad green, carrots, turnips, beets, fragrant bay leaves, and leeks. I love this agreement! No taxes, and no trips to the grocery store!
We also finished up a driftwood gate for her that you can see in the photo above… We are very happy with it! The geometry makes it very strong. Here is what Heather had to say about it. This is what we wish for all our clients!
“I just stepped outside to go run an errand, and seeing it again I was filled with gratitude! Every day, I get to see, touch, interact with this beautiful intersection of nature and human creativity! … Thank you for your work...we are truly blessed!”
Without further ado, here is this weeks Food Forest 5!
