Indoor Edible Installations
This commercial project explored how food-growing systems can be thoughtfully integrated into interior spaces. Rather than treating plants as decoration, the goal was to invite living systems indoors in ways that were practical, productive, and inviting.
Three distinct installations were created. Custom cedar bench seating was designed to double as self-watering raised beds, incorporating integrated worm composting and providing both nourishment and a place to gather. Each bench became a functional and social element within the space.
A compact citrus tree was selected as the focal point of these installations, offering both beauty and edible harvest while remaining well suited to indoor conditions. To support daily kitchen use, a cascading herb shelf and a dedicated microgreens growing station were added, providing fresh ingredients year-round within arm’s reach.
Together, these elements demonstrate how indoor environments can support food production, education, and everyday interaction with living systems. The installations blur the boundary between built space and garden, bringing care, attention, and nourishment into the heart of a shared commercial setting.
